  • Candidates are nominated in nonpartisan primary elections.
  • The candidate who receives the highest number of votes is elected to the Oregon Supreme Court.

Interim Vacancies

  • Every vacancy in the office of Judge of the Supreme Court shall be filled by election for the remainder of the vacant term, unless it would expire at the next election, and until so filled, or when it would so expire, the Governor shall fill the vacancy by appointment.

  • Judicial Election

    Judges are elected by popular vote.

  • Democratic Appointment

    Judges are appointed directly by a democratic body, or appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of some democratic body.
